Review your insurance
Have you made any changes to your home or its contents? This could affect your Churchill home insurance policy and you need to let us know. Here are some examples of changes that you need to advise us of and why:
Change of address
If you move home, then you need to completely review your buildings and contents insurance. Your contents may stay the same but usually involve some degree of change when you move, as people throw out old things and buy new ones for a fresh start or necessary refurbishment. Your policy documents also need to detail your correct address. At Churchill we also offer buildings insurance up to £500,000, so you need to make sure that your home fits into that bracket. Plus we are able to provide buildings cover for your new home between the exchange and completion dates (up to 45 days), so please call us to arrange this cover.
Change of name
If you get married you may change your name. We will need your new one to keep your policy up-to-date.
Change of contents
You might be surprised at how often the contents of your home change. Even buying new clothes every week can all add up! Make sure you keep a regular inventory as we can only insure up to the value of £50,000 as standard and want to make sure you stay covered. The standard cover of £50,000 can be increased, so please call us if you wish to increase this cover. You might also invest in valuable items such as works of art, in which case we need to specify this on your policy. We specify on your policy items over the value of £1,500 each. For items with an individual value of less than £1,500 we cover up to £15,000 as standard, however this can be increased.
Setting up a business
As long as your home business is confined to routine paperwork, computer work and telephone calls we can also cover you for business equipment (this also includes childminding). So if you set up a business in your home, you can get cover for business equipment up to the value of £4,000. Policies purchased online automatically include business use, however if you purchase your policy over the telephone you will need to request it.
Extensions, conversions and building work
Any building work that you do can alter the value of your home. You therefore need to make sure we can still cover you under our buildings policy up to the value of £500,000. If you have outbuildings, sheds, gates or fences, these can be covered by your buildings insurance too, so remember to add any new ones on.
