Future cars

Flying cars could be on our roads and in our airways within years, although car insurance for such motors could also be sky high.

Cars of the future – cars that fly, swim or stack – are making their way from sci-fi novels into the consumer sector. Yes, you could see flying cars in your lifetime, and we’re not talking about watching a re-run of Back to the Future. However, you may need a small fortune to purchase such new car technology, plus cover within a new tech car insurance group to go with it.

Flying high

Companies such as Moller International certainly believed it would only be a matter of time before the world demanded a flying machine that would replace the car – one that would be capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL), easy to maintain, cost effective and reliable. That’s why they’ve spent more than forty years developing the M400 Skycar.

Cruising at a comfortable 275mph, with up to 20 miles per gallon on clean-burning ethanol fuel for greener driving the Skycar offers an exciting scenario: ‘No traffic, no red lights, no speeding tickets. Just quiet direct transportation from point A to point B in a fraction of the time.’ So it’s no surprise they already have 100 orders for the car and are working with the insurance industry on flying car insurance costs. The Skycar can even be adapted for water operation for wannabe James Bonds.

Meanwhile, over at the famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), they’re currently developing electric, stackable Bit Cars. Simply pick up from the parked stack, use and drop off at the back of another to be charged.

Let’s hope all future cars take note and offer new ways to drive green and save money.
