Car insurance comparison
These days it’s easy to compare car insurance quotes online using one of the many car insurance comparison websites, but it’s not always so easy to decide which is best. What appears to be the cheapest car insurance may not provide the same level of cover as your current policy, so it's important to ensure you compare every aspect of cover to what is in your existing policy when carrying our car insurance comparison.
These are a few things to look out for:
-
The level of excess (the amount you must pay towards any claim)
When you’re carrying out your car insurance comparison, you may well find the cheapest car insurance quote has the highest level of excess. While this may help you save up front, if you need to make a claim it may not seem like such a good buy when you suddenly need to find the money to pay that high excess. -
Courtesy car
Another way of cutting premiums is to leave out some of the benefits most of us would expect as standard – like a courtesy car. If your car needed to be taken away for repair following an accident, how would if affect your daily routine if you had to rely on your family, friends or public transport? Churchill includes a courtesy car at no extra cost when you use one of our approved repairers. Or for an additional monthly premium, you can have an enhanced courtesy car, which means the replacement vehicle will be a car in a similar size to your own, up to a 'Class F' hire car or small van. This is great if you need more space for example, on the school run or if you use your car for business. -
Optional cover
If you’re making a car insurance comparison against your renewal quote, check whether you have any extra cover included with your current policy, for example legal expenses or breakdown cover. This may sound obvious, but it’s easy to forget which options you chose 12 months ago when you’re searching for a new car insurance quote.
